Documents to be carried while starting to Drive in India

Driving In India: When starting to drive in India, it’s important to ensure you have all the necessary documents with you to comply with legal requirements. Here is a list of essential documents you should carry while driving in India:

  1. Driving License (DL)
      • A valid and government-issued driving license is a mandatory document for driving in India. Make sure your license is up-to-date and has not expired.

  2. Vehicle Registration Certificate (RC)
    • Carry the original copy of the vehicle’s registration certificate. This document provides details about the vehicle, including its registration number, engine number, chassis number, and owner details.
  3. Insurance Cover
    • Keep a copy of your vehicle insurance certificate with you. It should be valid and cover at least some third-party liability.
  4. Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUC)
    • Keep a valid PUC certificate, which confirms that your vehicles are within the permissible limits.  It is important to get your vehicle checked for pollution levels regularly.
  5. Permit and Fitness Certificate (for commercial vehicles):
    • If you are driving a commercial vehicle, ensure that you have the necessary permits and fitness certificates.
  6. ID Proof:
    • Carry a government-issued identification proof such as an Aadhar card, passport, or voter ID. It may be required for verification purposes.
  7. Address Proof:
    • Some authorities may request address proof. Documents like an Aadhar card, passport, utility bills, or rental agreement can serve this purpose.
  8. NOC (No Objection Certificate):
    • If you moved from another state and your vehicle is still registered in the previous state, carry the NOC issued by the previous RTO.

Note: Before you start driving in India, you need a learner’s license.
